A Second Residence for Art and Retreat

Conceived as both a private retreat and a space for hosting, this residence embodies a living gallery — a temporary dwelling shaped by the presence of art.

The client, deeply rooted in the art and fashion industries, brings a discerning, methodical eye to every aesthetic decision. The design begins with a scenographic approach: a layering of dark, contrasting materials delineates the shift between daily rhythm and leisure, establishing a distinct spatial counterpoint to the everyday.

Cheng Chung Design weaves the client’s passion for art into a spatial narrative — a logic-driven composition where light, materials, and circulation converge, allowing life and curation to coexist in quiet dialogue.

From architectural frame to interior cadence, the team translates structure into visual thresholds. Window outlines guide the gaze inward. A floating canopy in the dining area connects public and private zones through reflection and suspension, transitioning into the more intimate bedrooms and playroom. Here, spatial rhythm is not just in form, but in flow. Vistas are not confined to walls — they are extrapolated from the architectural skin inward.
